Zooter International School Dad’s Tournament witnessed a lopsided knockout match that was played between BD Smashers and AIS Spark on February 9 at RCF Sports Club, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, BD Smashers packed a punch by putting up a daunting 223-7 in 20 overs. Riding on opening batsman Suchit Shah’s (61 off 40; 4*7 and 6*1) fabulous batting display, BD Smashers piled up a mammoth score. With the ball for AIS Spark, Abhishek Javeri and Rajesh Saluja picked up two wickets apiece. Between the two, Saluja (2-40) was on the expensive side, whereas right arm medium pacer Javeri (2-28) was economical. Opening the bowling for AIS Spark, Abhishek tried to pitch in right line and length to tame the blitzkrieg of BD Smashers.
224 was always going to be a difficult target to chase. Opening the batting for AIS Spark, Abhishek Javeri (63 off 46; 4*3 and 6*3) was the solitary warrior as he held on to the innings till the 13th over. However against the run of play he fell to Ambish Shah (1-32). Rajesh Saluja (19), Harmeet Chawla (19 not out), and Aditya Saraf (17) got off to starts but failed to capitalize. AIS Spark was reduced to 147-7 in 20 overs, falling short of 76 runs, thanks to a disciplined bowling performance put up by BD Smashers. Nikhil Singhi was the pick of the bowlers for BD Smashers as he finished off his wonderful spell with figures of 2-17.
Abhishek Javeri was bestowed with the Man of the Match for his scintillating performance with both, bat and ball. Abhishek elucidated, “It was a good cricketing wicket. I could generate good bounce from it. The outfield was quick as well. The square boundaries were big, whereas the straight boundaries were relatively small. Running 2’s and 3’s was crucial. I enjoyed batting today. However would have liked to have the last laugh “.
