Attacking opener Shahid Shaikh’s brutal 147 steers Police Gymkhana to a win in the Talim Shield Tournament ‘18

Two old and experienced teams of Mumbai namely PJ Hindu Gymkhana and Police Gymkhana clashed against each other at the Police Gymkhana ground where in PJ Hindu Gymkhana won the toss and elected to field first in order to restrict the opposition to a low total and put them under pressure.

Their decision to field first was not the most accurate as Police Gymkhana amassed 366/5 on the board in 45 overs. Opener Shahid Shaikh set the tone for the innings as he scored an entertaining knock of 147 coming off mere 92balls. Shahid did not spare a single bowler as he meted out the same treatment to all and i.e to attack. His knock included 12fours and as many as 9sixes much to the delight of the spectators and his team mates alike. Chirag Khurana(77 off 45balls) and Swapnil Kulaye(75 off 46balls) were equally impressive with the bat as they smashed wonderful half centuries. Both the players attacked with confidence at the middle order taking their team to a more than respectable total to defend.

In reply, PJ Hindu Gymkhana fought well but eventually fell short by 72runs. The openers fell early but Sujit Haravi(87 off 89b) and Sachin Wagh(68 off 50) at one point brought their team back into the game with their solid batting. Sujay Thakkar with 52 also chipped in but eventually the Police Gymkhana bowlers outwitted the batsman with Santosh, Yogesh and all-rounder Chirag Khurana bagging 2wkts each. Police Gymkhana won the match where in the whole team contributed well but it was opener Shahid who stood out with his counter attacking knock of 147.
