The month of November witnessed some exciting cricket. November was also an intenseful month with grueling cricket tournaments like Kanga, Police Shield, Times and Giles shield being played in full flow. There were some extra ordinary matches as well as some breath taking knocks which simply bestowed our faith in Indian Cricket that ‘Yes the cricket of India has a promising future ahead’

There were a lot of centuries scored in November in different moments at different batting positions under different pressure situations and hence it was difficult to shortlist. Eventually after a grueling session of selecting the top 5, we came up with this 6 knocks which stood out in November 2017.

 

Joint 5th- Atharva Nigare-180 off 209balls, (LHB), Harris Shield Tournament 2017

Played at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana in Mumbai, Al-barkaat are known to produce talents who score big and this time the player who came out brightly from their side was this left handed Atharva Nigare who came in at no.3 and played a marathon  innings of 180 off 208balls to steer his team towards a big total. It was his knock which helped Al barkat reach a total of 398/8decl which his team successfully defended to win the match by 273runs.

 

5. Sachin Yadav 208 off 176balls, (LHB), Purshottam Shield Tournament 2017

Played at the Youth’s own Union CC, aggressive opener Sachin gave us a déjà vu of Dhawan’s debut batting vs Australia with his stellar double ton. Left-handed Sachin scored the 1st double hundred of the this year’s purshottam tournament against Bhatnagar C & SF as he smashed 208 off mere 176deliveries which included 27fours and a six. It was his double ton which helped CCI score a mammoth 478/9 in 70 overs and successfully defend the target too as they won that match by a stunning margin of 392runs.

 

4. Sumit Ghadigaonkar 200 off 186balls (RHB), Police Shield Tournament 2017

Opener Sumit created history by scoring two back to back double hundreds in Mumbai cricket. We have heard of two consecutive fifties, two consecutive hundreds, two consecutive 5wkt hauls but two back to back double tons was unheard of until Sumit made it possible against Islam Gymkhana. Sumit scored another elegant 200 off mere 186deliveries (21fours. 3sixes) which helped his team MIG make a daunting score of 472/8 in 70 overs. Islam Gymkhana were all out for 248runs and eventually MIG won the match by 224 runs at the MIG Cricket Club ground.

3. Maulik Mehta- 178* off 89balls (RHB), KSG 40-40 Tournament 2017

Not only Maulik scored one of the fastest tons in KSG tournaments but he also created another record of making the highest individual score in any KSG tournaments over the years. Played at the Payyade Cricket Ground between KSG Challengers and KSG Daredevils, KSG Daredevils batting first gave a target of 243 where in his team in reply was struggling at 21/5 at one point while chasing. But it was this player who came and changed the script of the game overnight with his blitzkrieg batting. Not only was his knock a feast to the eyes, Maulik also helped his team clinch a thriller of a win with the help of his 178*off 89balls (17fours. 10sixes)

2. Sandeep Palav- 206 off 110balls, (RHB), Harris Shield Tournament 2017

Played between Fatima high school and Sacred heart (Worli) at Azad maidan where in Sacred heart won the toss and chose to field first. Their decision to field first did not turn out to be the best as Fatima boys scored a mammoth 365/2 in 45 overs. Openers Sandeep Palav and Dev gave a solid start while Sandeep continued the onslaught and went on to score one of the most electrifying tons of 2017 in Mumbai local cricket. Right handed Sandeep scored 206 off mere 110 balls (15fours) making the mockery of the opposition bowlers as he literally toyed with the bowlers. Sandeep’s knock was a mixture of grace and aggression coupled with excellent running between the wickets. What’s more he also stitched a great partnership of 288 runs with Rupesh Gupta who also scored a fabulous century scoring 115 off just 95balls (10fours). It was their brutal dominance with the bat which helped them post an excellent total on the board. It was his knock which helped his team win the match by 275runs as Sacred Heart School were bundled out for just 90runs.

And Finally the no.1……………..

1. Sumit Ghadigaonkar- 229 off 204balls, (RHB) Police Shield Tournament 2017

This knock and this tournament was a beginning of a great season for Sumit Ghadigaonkar as he consistently notched down runs. He also created a history of sorts in the police shield tournament with his effortless batting. It was at MIG Cricket club where his team MIG CC were made to bat first after PJ Hindu Gymkhana elected to field first. Little did they knew that attacking opener Sumit would went on to score a ravishing 229 off just 204deliveries which helped his team reach a big total of 419/7 in 70 overs. In reply, PJ Hindu Gymkhana were skittled out for 157runs which helped his team win the match by 262 runs. It was certainly Sumit who stole all the attention with his fantastic double hundred.
