Half centurion Bakhtiyar Irani guides JNS Jaguars to a 29-run win over OIS Tigers

The Championship Knockout match of Zooter International School Dad’s Tournament was played between JNS Jaguars and OIS Tigers on February 10 at RCF Sports Club, Mumbai. Batting first, JNS Jaguars posted a daunting 173-7 in 20 overs, courtesy a delightful half century by the opening batsman Bakhtiyar Irani (58 off 44; 4*4 and 6*1). The opening pair of Irani and Atul Ganeriwal (38 off 36, 4*1 and 6*1) stitched a solid partnership of 92 in 11 overs. For OIS Tigers, Siddharth Bihani was the pick of the bowlers scalping 3-37 in his four overs.

In reply, OIS Tigers were dwindled to 144-6 in 20 overs, falling short by 29 runs. Opening bat Abhishek Dutt top scored with run a ball 37, and was ably supported by Siddharth Bihani (25) and Punit Gambhir (21). However, the OIS Tigers failed to cross the rope, which was mainly due to the disciplined bowling effort exhibited by JNS Jaguars. Hemal Chitalia picked up 2-31 in his three overs, with Atul Ganeriwal and Keyur Shah accounting for one dismissal each. JNS Jaguars were electrifying on the field as they held on to the catches and were involved in two run outs.

For his match winning knock of 58, the right hand bat Bakhtiyar Irani was presented with the Man of the Match award. Irani averred, “Early morning start meant that the wicket a bit wet. I played the first three-four overs with caution and once I got my eye in I was determined to play a big knock. I enjoyed facing the fast bowlers today as I could use their pace to get full value for my shots”.
