Nataraj Pen’s Mumbai’s Own Cricket Awards- Felicitation of School Category Awards

The 2nd Edition of Mumbai’s Own Cricket Awards held at Mithibai College, Vile Parle on 20th February was a thumping success with various personalities from cricketing ecosystem gracing the event. From BCCI umpires to coaches, from school principals to State as well as National level cricketers graced the awards function adding the silver lining to the event.

The Jury which consisted of Umesh Patwal (Nepal National Team Batting Consultant), Sangeeta Kamat (MCA Women’s Selector) and Ajay Kadam (Former MCA Selector and BCCI Level 1 Coach) who brainstormed their way to decide the winners across 6 categories.

Let’s take a look at the winners of the School Category-

      

Best Batsman Winner-Suryansh Shedge from Gundecha High School (Winner of School Category) 

Popularly now known as the hitman in the School Cricket Category in Mumbai. Suryansh from the day he scored his fastest triple tona few years back has been scoring runs consistently. Suryansh this season scored an impressive 804 runs in 9 innings & 8 wkts in 5 innings.

Leading run scorer (5 centuries in 7 matches ) for Mumbai U16 Team for India’s West Zone & Highest batting strike rate all India in BCCI’s Vijay Merchant Trophy 2018 –state level tournament (best score of this year is 194 runs in 119 balls against Maharashtra U16 Team, (batting Avg.-140 and strike rate of 148) – Source by BCCI Only. selected for Mumbai U19 team also for Cooch Behar Trophy 2018-19

1st Runner up- Sai Chavan, 666 runs in 13 innings from Shardashram Vidaymandir Thane.

2nd Runner up- Jash Ganiga, 1151 runs in 23 innings including 3 hundreds from IES School Bandra

BEST BOWLER –

Himanshu Singh from Al-Barkaat English School (Winner of School Category, Best Bowler)-56 wkts and 447 runs in 19 innings.

This year champion in Harris shield Inter school U16 boys Cricket Tournament and this year best Player of the tournament (score 120 runs and 15 wickets in 4 Matches ) in Harris shield tournament Himanshu is also playing under 16 Vijay Merchant trophy (state level tournament) for Mumbai team where he has performed all round with 216 runs in 6 innings (5 Matches) & 21 Wkts in 7 innings (5 Matches) becoming the top-wicket taker in this tournament (for Mumbai U16 Team)

Himanshu was also the Top Wickets Taker in “Under-16 Sri D.V. Subba Rao Trophy 2018-2019 (Andhra Pradesh)” & was awarded the best bowler in tournament with 14 Wkts in 5 innings (3 Matches)

1st Runner up- Anurag Singh from Al-Barkaat, 67 wkts in 13 matches.

2nd Runner up – Shubham Kharat from IES English School Bandra, 48 wkts in 14 innings.

Most Popular Player Award-Ayush Vartak from SVIS Borivali

Ayush Vartak who has been a reckoning force with the bat won theMost Popular Player in School Category with 520 votes. He won the Most Popular Category by a considerable margin surpassing numerous strong contenders. He surpassed Jash Ganiga’s 519 votes to become the winner by a margin of just one vote. Ayush came into the limelight overnight after he scored a brilliant double hundred that too in a high intensity finals of the U14 CPCC Tournament in 2018.
