Promising left arm chinaman, Shikhar Mehta poised to make his debut in kanga league this season

Shikhar Mehta, 24 yrs old is all set to make his debut in kanga league with a reputed A division club- Fort Vijay. His cricket career has been a roller coaster ride until recently. Back then when he was the skipper of NM college he was in the news for his bowling abilities. However he never considered cricket as a serious career.  All that changed almost a year back, when he was called in to bowl in a net practise session of a touring Australia team.

There he was spotted by Suresh Shastri, an ex- Rajasthan Ranji skipper who currently coaches and also takes up umpiring assignments to stay close to the game in Mumbai.

Coach Suresh Shastri straightaway sensed the raw talent possessed by Shikhar and thought he had the making of a Ranji player. Shikhar has been training under Coach Shastri for a while now and was instructed to focus only on training and to abstain from playing any tournaments till the coach thought he was ready. And the time seems just about right for him to play in the most competitive Mumbai cricket tournaments.

Few achievements by Shikhar Mehta:

  1. Double hat trick in a club match
  2. Prized wickets of IPL players like Aaryaman Birla & Sanju Samson
  3. Scored 128 runs in a college match

Shikhar also coaches under Coach Manish Bangera to hone his batting skills.

There is a possibility that Shikhar may miss an opportunity in Kanga tournaments since pace bowlers are preferred over spinners coz of wet conditions, nevertheless here’s wishing Shikhar all the best to make a strong debut in the Mumbai cricket circles.

And btw he is a lawyer by profession and currently pursuing masters in law.
