Shashank Singh’s 114 helps D.Y Patil give a tough fight against Jain Irrigation in Times Cricket Shield.

The Day 3 between DY Patil and Jain Irrigation was an intense encounter as both the teams gave their best in the final day’s play to steer the game in their favor. After a great batting performance by D.Y Patil where they scored 484/10 in 118 overs where in Shashank Singh scored a quickfire century followed by Kevin Almeida’s fluent 86, it was Jain Irrigation’s turn to show their prowess with the bat. Shashank scored a century at a strike rate of almost 100 and smashed 7 sixes in his knock to enthrall the spectators at the stadium. Shashank hardly wasted any time at the crease and also stitched a good partnership with the talented Kevin Almeida which helped their team cross the 400 run mark in the 1st innings.

At the end of Day 2, Jain Irrigation were also looking solid at 177/3 and it was going to be a tough affair on the final day. Azhar Ansari and Mansing Nigade who were looking confident at the crease on day 2 with unbeaten half centuries continued their good batting as Azhar went on to score a solid hundred which steadied the ship for his side. Azhar Ansari scored a wonderful 127 followed by his partner at the crease Mansing Nigade who also played a crucial hand with his gutsy 84. Both the batsman looked confident and played good shots, they also rotated the strike nicely and as a result they reached a good total of 390/10 in 116.5 overs.

Falling just short of 96 runs in terms of trail, they surpassed the follow on score and as a result D.Y Patil again came to bat for 2nd innings before the 3rd and final day’s play was about to get over. D.Y Patil played the last 12.3 overs of the game and were 48 for no loss with left-handed batsman Kevin Almeida remaining unbeaten on 40*. The match was eventually won by D.Y Patil where they won on “1st innings’.

Shashank Singh was adjudged ‘Man of the match’ and all in all it was a great match where both the teams gave their best.
