Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive half century & Shivam Dube’s all-round show helps BPCL win in the DY Patil T20 Cup ‘18

 

Played at the DY Patil Univerity 1 Ground, it was a clash between two talented teams namely BPCL and Mumbai Police where in BPCL were made to bat first after losing the toss. Mumbai Police who won the toss aimed of restricting them to a low total.

However, BPCL hardly looked affected after made to bat first as they scored a very healthy total of 196 runs on the board for 7wkts. Opener Mandeep Singh gave a good start with a 30ball 43 while Shreyas who came at no.3 continued the positive momentum not only engaging in a 56ball 85run stand with Mandeep to set the tone for their innings. Shreyas went on to score a very solid looking yet aggressive 57 which came off mere 35deliveries (3fours, 4sixes). Shreyas was certainly looking really good playing at a strike rate of 160+ coming back in his elements which eventually propelled the team total to a very healthy 196/7 in 20 overs. Shivam Dube 34 off 15{5fours,1six} & Eknath Kerkar 27* off 11 {3sixes} also gave handy contributions at the middle order which further boosted the score. Javed Khan who was a bit on the expensive side conceded 43runs in 4overs while also took 3wkts to become the pick of the bowlers.

Chasing at almost 10runs per over against a quality bowling attack of BPCL, Mumbai Police must have felt the pressure as they were bundled out for 112runs all out in 19.2 overs. All-rounder Shivam Dubey who gave a good cameo at the middle order was also the pick of the bowlers coming up with excellent bowling figures of 3/7 in 3overs with his medium pacers. The rest of the bowlers chipped in with wickets too making it a collectively good team perfomance. BPCL won the match effortlessly by 84runs and it was certainly Shreyas and Mandeep with the bat while Shivam’s all-round show which sealed the game for them in their favor. Kerkar’s late blitz down the order also proved to be quite handy!
