U/19 GSC puts up a great teamwork in the finals as they win the U19 Naren Tamhane Tournament ‘18

Played between U/19 Goregaon and U/19 Karnatak 2018 at the National CC, Cross Maidan where in Karnatak skipper Ishan Mulchandani won the toss and elected to bat first on a wicket which has always been a tricky one.

Batting first, Karnatak U/19 were all out for 197runs which is definitely not a threatening total to defend in a finals game. Even though most of the players struggled to make an impact, opener Ravikant Jaiswar scored a stoic 57 while Samprat Khedekar at the middle order saved his team from an embarrassing total as he scored an 11ball 63 alongwith Purav Parikh’s 47 down the order. From the bowlers, medium pacer Balwant Sodha took 3/42 while off spinner Zaid Khan took 3/40 being the pick of the bowlers. Left arm pacer Darshan also looked promising with 2/28.

Skipper Vaibhav Kalamkar after winning the title

U/19 GSC on the other hand were off to a patchy start with openers out for low scores but skipper Vaibhav continued his good form at no.3 with a solid 46 while left handed Ajit Yadav and Sheesh Shetty at the middle order smashed match winning fifties to take their team towards a healthy total. While Ajit scored a brilliant 84 off 140balls (9fours), Sheesh on the other hand wasted no time for his handy 64ball 63 laced with 8fours and 3sixes taking the team total of 293 in 78.3 overs. Left-arm spinners Akash Sharma and Purav Parikh bagged 3wkts each. Karnatak team were again struggling at 95/7 with Vignesh Solanki impressing one and all bagging 5wkts for 37runs. Left-arm spinner Vignesh has been a consistent bowler and has been improving with every game with his good line and length.

U/19 GSC team won the match on 1st innings and it was definitely a excellent team perfomance where all the boys gave their best to win the prestigious Naren Tamhane Tournament ’18.
