Walt Disney reach Masters Cup 7 Final; defeat Direct-I by 3 wickets

In the semi-final match of Masters Cup 7, Walt Disney, courtesy Rakesh’s all-round show and a decent bowling performance, defeated Direct-I by 3 wickets to secure a place in the final.

Walt Disney won the toss and elected to field first. Direct-I were off to a bad start as they lost opener Sudhanshu on the third ball of the match. Ajeet and Ryan then stitched a second wicket partnership of 69 at almost run a ball when Ajeet got himself out on a personal score of 26. Ryan completed his half century but was soon out leaving Nitin to complete the unfinished task. Rest of the batsmen fell like nine pins as none apart from Nitin could even reach double figures as Direct-I could score only 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

For Walt Disney, Rakesh and Prem captured a couple of wickets each while as many as three batsmen were run out.

Chasing 138 for the final berth, Walt Disney were three down for 44 at one stage. Only Rakesh (23) Hitesh (26*) could cross 20 as Walt Disney kept losing wickets at regular intervals. But small contributions from lower middle order helped them cross over the line with Lijo scoring 17 off 7 and Mangesh scoring 15* off 9.

It was a spirited bowling effort from Direct-I with Prashant taking 3 wickets and Sudhanshu taking 2. But they could not stop Walt Disney to overhaul a small total set by their batsmen.

Hitesh, for his sensible batting was adjudged Man of the Match.
