Ajit Ghosh Women’s T20 Trophy’19 Day 1 Updates-Zeal Dmello shines with 74 while bowlers impress

Tournament Name- AJIT GHOSH MEMORIAL TROPHY (Women’s T20 Tournament’2019)

Gay Cavaliers CC after batting first at Mahim Juvenile SC registered a healthy total of 188/2 in 20 overs dominating the John Bright CC bowlers upfront. Opener Zeal Dmello top scored for her team hitting a strokeful 78 runs off 64 balls at the top of the order. Zeal anchored the innings and batted almost till the end taking her team towards a big total. Zeal smashed 11 boundaries en-route her half century while she was nicely supported by Dhanashree who scored an unbeaten 41* laced with 2 boundaries.

Defending a total of 189, John Bright CC were reduced for mere 60 runs all out in 16.3 overs. It was a collective effort by the bowlers as Sanyukta Kini (3/11), Jahnavi Kate (3/15) & Ulka Patil (2/14) kept on providing breakthroughs at regular intervals not allowing any batsman to settle.

Gay Cavalliers CC won the match by 144 runs while it was Zeal with the bat and some tight bowling by Sanyukta, Jahnavi and Ulka which did the job for the team. A win by 144 runs is also one of the biggest wins in terms of margin in recent times in Women’s Cricket.

Result– Sporting Union CC win the match by 5 runs.

It was a tight match where bowlers played a crucial role from both the sides. While Kamat Memorial had 4 bowlers chipping in with 2 wkts, Sporting Union CC bowlers on other hand bowled really tight not allowing the batsman to up the run rate. It was on the back of some tight bowling by the Sporting Union bowlers that they successfully defended a low total.
