Awais Khan takes Rizvi into semis in MI Junior Cricket Tournament’20

Al-Barkat, Swami Vivekanand and IES New English also make last four cut

Mumbai: Awais Khan scored an unbeaten hundred to power Rizvi Springfield High School, Bandra into the semi-finals of the Boys U-14 category in the Mumbai Indians Junior 2020 cricket tournament. Rizvi thrashed Don Bosco High School, Matunga by 99 runs in the quarter-final match on Monday.

Khan played a responsible knock of 103 in 105 balls to stay till the end and ensure Rizvi finish with a challenging total of 218/6 in their stipulated 40 overs after batting first. Harsh Gharsun gave Khan good support from the other end with his sedate knock of 46 runs.

The target proved too much for Bosco boys as their batters failed to put up a fight against Rizvi’s strong bowling line-up. Bosco managed just 119 all-out in 36.4 overs. Khan contributed with the ball as well by picking up a crucial wicket.

In another quarter-final match, Aryan Shejule of Al-Barkat Malik English School scored 94 in his team’s 51-run win over KC Gandhi English School, Kalyan. Shejule was measured in his 107-ball knock to help his school post 204 all-out in 40 overs. In response, KC Gandhi school batsmen were bowled out for 153 in 38.1 overs. Shejule who missed out on a hundred earlier by six runs chipped in with a wicket as well.

Meanwhile, Swami Vivekanand International School, Kandivali and IES New English School, Bandra scored emphatic victories in the two remaining quarter-final matches to complete the semi-final line-up.

Swami Vivekanand rode on Yatharth Yadav’s all-round performance to thrash St. Mary’s High School by 134 runs. Yadav first scored 73 to help his side post a total of 213/9 in 40 overs and then scalped three wickets to help in restricting St. Mary’s to 79 all-out in 30.3 overs.

IES New English defeated Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali by 73 runs. Aarush Patankar (41), Arjun Bagaitkar (34) played crucial knocks before Hrishikesh Gore scored unbeaten 30 in 22 balls to lift IES New English’s score to 209/6 in 40 overs. Gore later sneaked a wicket also as his team restricted the school from Borivali to 136 all-out in 32.4 overs.
