Addressing the players and dignitaries a modest Nagrale said, “Honestly, I did not know much about this tournament being organized by the Mumbai Police. I learnt that this tournament has a long tradition as it is being conducted since 1947 when India gained its independence. I think it’s worth supporting and organizing this tournament as it provides encouragement to the cricketers and we will ensure this tournament continues forever.”

Paranjpe believes this tournament is the key for Mumbai cricketers to get noticed. “I have played this tournament for many years and we won it for CCI (Cricket Club of India) in 2002. This tournament is very important because it’s like a curtain-raiser for the season. Earlier, the Police Shield at the weekend and Times shield during the week and that’s your red ball preparation for the season, so that’s why this tournament assumes a lot of importance. The Mumbai selectors watch this tournament because it becomes a selection tournament. There is a lot of tradition to it, so even players also look forward to this tournament because there is a lot of history and tradition to it,” Paranjpe mentioned.

“This tournament is very dear for me. That’s because my father, Vasu Paranjpe used to captain the police team for almost 15-20 years and when I was a kid I watched my father play this tournament,” Paranjpe further stated.
