Mayur Mangela’s crucial half century with an injured thumb steers Sainath SC to a win in Talim Shield’21

Played at Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, United Cricketers after being put to bat first scored a very good total on board posting 196/4 in 20 overs. Opener Shoeb Khan (62 off 51 balls) and middle order batsman Vaibhav Patil (58 off 37 balls) scored half centuries for United Cricketers Team. Bharat Patil with 1/22 in 4 overs was the most economical of the lot from Sainath SC.

Chasing 197, the pressure was certainly on Sainath batters to get going but to their dismay, they lost some quick top order wickets. 26yr old Mayur Mangela coming at no.4 absorbed pressure and scored a brilliant knock of 67 runs in 43 balls to steer Sainath towards a successful chase. Mayur smashed 8 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 155.61 while also stitched a crucial partnership with Karan More who scored a game changing 53 off mere 17 balls. Eventually Sainath Sports Club crossed the victory line winning the match by 1 wkt and 5 balls to spare.

Speaking with Cricketgraph, Mayur shared “In the 3rd over of the 1st innings, I got hit by the ball and I injured my thumb. I almost felt, I won’t get to play again, I applied icing on the thumb, applied a bandage and returned to the field. I did fielding and even came to bat and it feels great to contribute towards my team’s win, this innings will certainly be important for many reasons, right from the picturesque ground, the supporting team mates, the way I got hit on my thumb and how I came back and chipped in with runs. This match has given me confidence and hopefully il try to apply that positive mindset in the coming matches”
