Patil, Singh impress in Catholic Gym victory in MCA Kanga Knockout Tournament’22

Mumbai:Vaibhav Patil’s valuable innings of 75 runs and left-arm spinner Manindra Pratap Singh effective bowling 5 wickets for 26 were significant efforts, which helped Catholic Gymkhana register a 96-run win against Anushakti Nagar Sports & Recreation Club in a Group-D section match of the MCA Dr. H.D. Kanga knockout cricket tournament 2022, and played at the New Era ground, Azad Maidan.

Preferring to bat, Catholic Gymkhana was bowled out for 243 in 43.4 overs. Besides Patil’s knock, which lifted the total, Rajesh Geetakrishnan contributed 41 runs, while Anushakti’s Neelesh Yadav took 3 wickets for 45 runs. Chasing a modest target, Anushakti Nagar batsmen struggled and collapsed for 147 all out in 35.5 overs. Ganesh Patil top-scored with 41 runs while Manindra was responsible for claiming half the rival’s wickets and seal Catholic Gymkhana’s win.

In other matches, Sportsfield CC boosted by Atharva Surve’s unbeaten 50 runs managed to defeat Young Men CC by 3 wickets and Jolly Friends CC snatched a close win against Bengal Club, clinching victory by just 14 runs.

Sportsfield winning the toss and deciding to field did well to bowl out Young Men’s CC for a paltry 110 runs in 33.1 overs. Krishna Verma 4 for 14 runs was Sportsfield’s successful bowler. In reply, Sportsfield CC had their share of anxiety as Young Men’s Ratnadeep got 5 crucial wickets to give his team some hopes of a win. But the Sportsfield lower order batters were defiant and managed to reach 111 for 7 wickets in 35.1 overs with Atharva getting a half century to see his team through.

Jolly Friends CC choosing to bat first, struggled and scored only 144 runs all out in 36.2 overs. All-rounder Narendra Ambavkar 79 runs helped Jolly Friends reach a respectable total. Durvesh Patil claimed 3 wickets for 29. Defending a modest target, Jolly Friends were a determined lot and once against Ambavkar played a key role picking 3 wickets for 14 runs and got support from Sushil Rane 3 wickets for 29 runs, and Sandeep Shinde 3 wickets for 42 runs to dismiss Bengal Club 130 runs in 38.3 overs and secure a deserving win. Aniket Berde was the lone Bengal Club batsman who scored 31 runs.

Young Men’s CC 110 all out, 33.1 overs (Krishna Verma 4/14) lost to Sportsfield CC 111 for 7 wickets, 35.1 overs (Atharva Surve 50*; Ratnadeep Chavan 5/35). Result: Sportsfield CC won by 3 wickets.

Jolly Friends CC 144 all out, 36.2 overs (Narendra Ambavkar 79;  Durvesh Patil 3/29) beat Bengal Club 130 all out, 38.3 overs (Aniket Berde 31; Narendra Ambavkar 3/14, Sushil Rane 3/29, Sandeep Shinde 3/42). Result: Jolly Friends CC won by 14 runs.

Young Social CC 69 all out, 24 overs (Ayush Mogal 6/23) lost to Bombay Union SC 71 for 6 wickets, 9.5 overs (Jay Chavan 42*; Sahil Purohit 4/40). Result: Bombay Union SC won by 4 wickets.

United CC 104 all out, 30.3 overs (Sandeep Yadav 3/11) lost to Worli CC 105 for 4 wickets, 14.4 overs (Sushant Kadam 33*; Vikas Lubana 3/20). Result: Worli CC won by 6 wickets.

Kshatriya CC 95 all out, 32 overs (Sanket Sutar 30; Ajinkya Pawar 3/19) lost to Gaud Union SC 101 for 5 wickets, 16.1 overs (Nimish Sandane 5/36). Result: Gaud Union Sports Club won by 5 wickets.
