SKP Athletics into the Semi-Finals of the Bombay Junior Shield’20

Maharashtra Young Cricketers after being wisely put to bat first at Cross Maidan (MB Union) were all out for 190 runs with middle order batsman Prashant Mhamunkar top scoring with 62 runs off 60 balls. It was a spirited performance from the SKP Athletics bowlers with spinners taking the lead this time with left arm spinner Shamim Shaikh and off-spinner Amar Mehta providing timely breakthroughs. Amar with 4/29 in 7.2 overs was the pick of the lot while Shamim was equally effective taking 4/31 in 9 overs.

Chasing 191, the opening pair of SKP Athletics made it look like a cakewalk stitching 134 runs under 25 overs which changed the course of the game. Opener Kinshuk Rai scored a solid 72 off 78 balls while 15yr old Roneet Thakur showed good confidence as he batted from start to end to ensure his team crossed the victory line with ease. Roneet remained unbeaten on 83* off 94 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes) as SKP Athletics chased down the score in just 32.2 overs winning the match by 7 wkts.

SKP Athletics Opener Kinshuk Rai who is the leading run scorer in the Bombay Junior Shield this season with 214 runs at an average of 100.00+ shared with Cricketgraph:

“It was an important toss to win since the wicket was little damp we elected to field ..opposition batsmen were little casual in their batting , we just wanted to bowl dot balls and wickets will come our way and that’s what happened. Our bowlers bowled pretty decently , we restricted them by 190 , but the wicket was eased out by then which gave us a upper hand and our openers i.e me and Roneet were just waiting for loose balls which we used to get in every over..in the end it was a good chase for us”

Senior All-Rounder of SKP Athletics, Kunal Bhavsar shared with Cricketgraph:

Wicket was damp to start with no help for pacers, ball was gripping on the wicket which was getting flat with the passing time. They got good couple of partnerships to start with but lost wickets in cluster and middle order collapsed against the spin. But last wicket gave a good stand of approx 70 runs. Pitch got relatively easy in the 2nd innings and our openers Roneet and Kinshuk made merry stitching a brilliant partnership”
