Vivek Singh, Upendra Yadav score centuries for Railways in Ranji Trophy

Railways and Chandigarh clashed against each other during their Elite Group D Ranji Trophy match between January 17 and 20. Chandigarh won the toss and elected to bowl at Sector 16 stadium in Chandigarh.

Asked to bat first, Railways posted a competitive total of 386 in 108.1 overs. Opening batter Vivek Singh and captain Upendra Yadav were the major contributors for Railways with the bat. While Singh mustered 108 off 215, Yadav smashed 113 off 138. Both the batters hammered 12 boundaries and a six each. On the other hand, Chandigarh’s Sandeep Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball, claiming 116/6 in 29 overs, including three maidens.

In reply, Chandigarh declared their innings at 485/8 in 149 overs, taking a 99-run lead. Captain Manan Vohra (126) and Gaurav Puri (102 not out) were the two centurions for Chandigarh. On the other hand, Railways’ Himanshu Sangwan was the pick of the bowlers with 64/3 in 25 overs, including eight maidens.

Though they trailed by 99 runs, Railways started their second innings on a positive note. Shivam Chaudhary (33 not out) and Pratham Singh (26 not out) steered their side to 71/1 in 17 overs after Pratham Singh (5) fell cheaply in the fourth over. Hartejaasvi Kapoor drew the first blood for Chandigarh.

The match between Railways and Chandigarh ended in a draw.
