An initiative by Sachin Bajaj’s Global Cricket School where the International Hong Kong Women’s team came for coaching under Chetan Dhingra and the Hong Kong coaching staff Richard Waite and James, it was really good to see that such young talented women cricketers are playing cricket with so much of passion and it’s also good to see that all the players are enjoying their game. Played at the MIG cricket ground in Mumbai, women’s Mumbai’s Under 16 and the international team of Hong Kong took on each other where in Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting first, the talented girls did a good job on a wicket which had more support for the bowlers as they notched up a very competitive score of 140/6 in 20 overs. Skipper Mariko Hill top scored coming in at no.3 to score a counter attacking 50 off 32balls. Right handed Mariko continued her form from the last match and again took on the bowlers with complete authority. The rest of the batsman gave starts but it was definitely mariko’s half century which steered her team to a healthy total of 140. From Mumbai,  Sharni Save bowled a fabulous spell of just one over and taking 3wkts. Sanika Chalke also looked really impressive with the ball as she took 3wkts.

Sau Ha Chan giving an excellent all round perfomance

Chasing 141 against a quality international side in a T20 is always a tough task and hong kong bowlers succeeded in restricting Mumbai girls to just 95runs for 8wkts in 20 overs. Left-arm spinner Sau Ha Chan was spot on with the ball as he took 2/12 in 4 overs which included one maiden. It was Sau Ha Chan’s day today as she ticked in every departments. Chan took a catch, did two run outs while also contributed with the bat which made her earn ‘man of the match’ award! The 1st match was also won by Hong Kong where in the talented Anchal Valanju from Mumbai was the bright spot scoring a confident looking 64 while Skipper Mariko also scored a half century which steered her team Hong Kong to a win which earned her ‘man of the match’ award in the 1st match. It has been two great matches filled with energetic young women cricketers and these are certainly positive indications overall for the game of Cricket and especially for women’s cricket.
