Atharva Ankolekar & Karan Sonawale help Parel Sporting Club win the match in the Young Comrade Shield Tournament

What an eventful and nail biting knockout match occurred between Parel Sporting Club and Mumbai Police Gymkhana at Youth Own Union Cricket Ground, Cross Maidan, Mumbai. Both the teams gave their very best & that was the highlight of the match. Winning the toss Mumbai Police Gymkhana elected to field first since they have good bowlers in their arsenal and put opposition under pressure.

Parel Club was off to a tricky start but eventually they batted well and posted a healthy score of 270/10 in 53.3 overs. Middle order batsman Karan Sonawale scored a magnificent 76 and was the pick of the batsman for Parel Sporting Club. The right hander scored a solid 76 coming off just 102 balls and smashed 7 classy boundaries in it. He also got some able support from the other batsman too. Right-handed Gaurav Chavan also chipped in with a quickfire 68 followed by Vicky Patil’s 45.Sunil Patil & Yogesh Jagtap were the pick of the bowlers taking 3/29 and 3/47 respectively for Mumbai Police Gymkhana.

Chasing 271, Mumbai Police almost won the match as they fell short of just 4 runs in what could have been one of the most nail-biting victories. Shrikant Limbole was the leading scorer with a brisk 57 followed by their skipper Rajesh Tandel’s 53. Limbole and Yogesh Jagtap at one point were looking really good to finish the match when they had stitched a great partnership of 74. Even the last wicket partnership of 35 was quite irritating for Parel Sporting Club until they finally got hold of the last batsman & won by a close margin. Talented left-arm spinner Atharva Ankolekar was the pick of the bowlers taking 5/67. This wasn’t the 1st time Atharva showed his bowling prowess as he time and again came in and broke those crucial partnerships.

Parel Sporting Club won the match by 4 runs and Atharva Ankolekar and Karan Sonawale were collectively adjudged ‘player of the match’ for their brilliant individual performances which helped their team win the crucial knockouts.
